Hey guys I posted a few weeks ago about what motor I should swap into my coronet. Thanks for all the great input and as I wanted to you all agreed BB was the way to go. So 440 here we come. I am by no means an expert when it comes to this so hoping you can all answer some questions as I go.

This was a 273 car from the factory which someone swapped to the slant 6. God only knows when. Out with the old

So they swapped a slant six in and just welded on the motor mounts to the v8 k frame. Seems like more work and time than just finding a V8.

Looks like fun. Wonder if they thought the /6 would save that much more gas?

That’s kinda what I was wondering. Thought maybe it was someone’s wife car and if the 273 blew he thought this would be better on fuel economy. Could have been done back in the 70,s during the fuel scarce? Who know.

Atlanta Georgia.
Here is the 440. 9.64:1 compression ratio.

Sounds great.

sounds great. Sure would be easier and quicker to go with an already built engine but I think I am going to build one myself(that’s half the fun right) lol. Plus I am in Wisconsin and that would be a good haul.

lol... Understand... I had fun building this one. My engine guy Bobby told me to make sure to buy some fat tires. He was saying 500 hp with 650 tq. If I dont sell this it will go into the belvedere. If I sell it I have a 69 383 HP I can build to drop into the belvedere. Its a 383 car anyhow.

Well not really but considering this was a RV engine and low compression and installing some forged pistons at .30 over it made a huge difference. There are more powerful 440's out there. This one could change CR with steel shim head gaskets. But probably shouldn't be done with cast heads. I wanted to keep it below 10.1

Hey guys just an update. Found the 440. Picking it up this week. 1974 RV motor with 55,000 original miles. Said it ran like a top when they pulled it. I will share some pics when it’s on the stand. Thought I would get your thoughts on a few things.

Any recommendations on front disc brake kits?

Also thoughts on the QA1 k member.

Some slant guys are hard core.

I'm not real big on them myself, but I know a 318 like the back of my hand.

Thought I would share an update of where I am. Added new k member, new upper and lower control arms, new strut bars, new shocks. Went with all QA1. Drove to Chicago a got a 440 from a 77 power wagon. Just ordered the disc brake kit from master brakes hopefully be here this week. Hopefully going to get that brake kit in this week I am sure with some bumps along the way. I will post some pics after the install.

Made some progress today. Tires are back on, steering pump is hooked up to the column, and master cylinder is in (those nuts were fun to get to under the dash lol). Hopefully get brake lines hooked up next week and finish the tie rods and pitman arm.
