I have a 67 Coronet 500 with a 383 AT. It has an Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock performer carb (Carter AFB style carb). All of the fuel lines have been changed from the tank on up including filler tube rubbers and tank seals etc. Has new fuel tank and sending unit. The car will not start in the morning without priming the carb. Sometimes it will start but I have to pump the gas about 100 times to get it to start. After it fires up it will start the rest of the day as long as it doesn't sit more than a couple of hours. Any ideas? One other problem, I replaced the fuel sending unit because it would only read about half full after a fill up. The new one does the same thing. The first full tank it went to full after the fill up and then went to half after a 5 mile drive or so. My car doesn't get the best gas mileage but I know I didn't use half a tank in 5 miles LOL! Any help would be appreciated.

I’m guessing its not the fuel leaking carb..but you can check float bowels .
The fuel in the carb bowl is boiling out after shut down The fuel today cause more evaporation. So residual heat is boiling the fuel.....a higher float level might help,1/2” phonoloc insulator....

Great looking 67........

I'm thinking along the same lines as Pops. The carb should have fuel setting in the bowl. Where is the fuel in the bowl going? After it sits a day I would take the top of the carb off and see how much fuel is sitting in the bowl. It should have enough fuel for the accelerator pump to squirt fuel down the throat.

I know it doesn't squirt a lot of fuel when I looked. I need to see how much fuel it squirts after I get it started and shut it off versus first starting it in the morning. On those carbs, the fuel line comes in above the bowl so I don't think it would be running back down the fuel line into the tank. Never thought of evaporation.

Yep, great looking 67 !
At one time my eddy carb was having cold start issues a new accelerator pump cured it.
If it makes you feel better............. My replacement sender from Vans reads the same {1/2 when full} next time I drop the tank for any reason I will adjust / bend the float arm down a little more.

All has been said above. No one I know has a fuel gauge that reads much over half when full.

I bought a 1/2 pick up online...works great. Picked it up at Dante's MOPAR parts.

I still have my old one that reads correct...might be willing to sell. It's like brand new...

Nice Coronet

Last time I did gas tank work I ended up installing an Autometer aftermarket gauge 0-90ohms (GM style ) and a 0-90ohm sending unit (a cut to fit style). Accurate fuel levels is comforting.
