Hello are, do you have to remove the windshield to get the dash out, or can it be done without,
I need to do some wiring under the dash,
Just thinking it might easier on a bench vs on my back

I can't imagine it's real fun doing it that way, though.

Not the best plan of attack when you add up the time involved.

I like to leave the seat in so you can sit on it. Remove steering column and instrument cluster and you will have room to work on the wiring. The cluster needs to roll out and down so the column is in the way of that, and hard on the plastic cluster bezel.

I replaced the dash harness on my 67 a/c car with the dash in the car because I didn't want to pull the windshield. It is a PITA but can be done. Most of it can be done through the instrument cluster and glove box openings. I would probably do the same way if I had to do it again, except I'd remove the front seats and console as I'm getting too old to twist my body like I used to.

Yes the column drop on the seat works good depending on what the fix is, the experience of the worker, and the size of the person working.

I didn’t take “step by step” photos of my last dash swap. There really isn’t much to it. Strip the dash frame, break the bolts loose from underneath with vice grips and back them out enough to get a wrench on the bolt head from above. Comes right out.

The vice grips don't tear up the threads?

When the bolts are out (2 of them, right?) does it drop down, or rotate forward on the side bolts (if any)?

There are 6 bolts along the top of the dash. Use shorter bolts and reinstall from the bottom.

Thanks all that replied, I'm going to try the cluster route 1st, then go from there.
