68 Charger Resto-Mod restoration

Never started a thread for my Charger restoration on this site. Started on the rebuild on 12-23-2010 and still working on it. Mostly done but figured most would want to see what I did to it to make it to this point. First photo is the before photo for car and motor. Well at least the motor... Have to hunt down all the pics first

Car at the beginning... And it looks are deceiving. This car is hammered I found out after bringing it home. Luckily the car was soda blasted and sandblasted so some of the work was done already. Not bad for 5,000 bucks

I'm very interested since I have one just like it, but not as far done as yours. Nice car! Let's see more,.under hood, interior, rebuild pics, whatever.
Is that a white roll cage with the white interior? Coool!

I'll just continue to roll through the build in steps. That will answer any questions about the build. First thing was to determine the size rims that will fit in the stock wheel well. I also was looking to see if an old 94 Camaro rearend would fit in the charger since I had it sitting in the garage and it was built to handle over a thousand horsepower. already.

Next I started cutting out all of the bad and replacing. Trunk, rear frame rails, wheel wells, front inner fenders.

To answer an earlier question the rims I decided on were 17x11" rear and 17x9.5" front custom billet Magnum 500 pieces from Wheel Vintique. The rear end I was using had Moser axles with an Auburn differential and 3.73 gears. The torque arm was extended to reach the cross member for the A833 hemi trans. I custom built the transmission cross member from an old automatic cross member for a 727.

That is what I was thinking as those look like the same rims I picked up from Year One, so your front is 245 and rear is around 275? looks like a lot metal work, great job!

Rear are 315/35ZR17 and the fronts are 275/40ZR17 Good year Eagle F1 GSD3

those are pretty wide, looks great. no work to body for clearance? really love the way your Charger sits, making sure I don't have issue when I am putting the new rubber on. Thanks

After replacing the major sheet metal and frame rail damage I put the car on the rotisserie and installed the frame connectors and strengthened the front shock tower area. Added some gussets and a piece of 1 3/4" tubing plus 2" formed square tubing that tied the front frame rails together. Only have finished pics of the frame connectors. Last pic shows the end of the 2" frame I welded between the front frame rails.

For my suspension no work was needed. If your car has a normal suspension travel then you will have to work the outer wheel well because of the way it's shaped. I worked mine with a torch, hammers, and dollies. turned out I didn't have to because my suspension travel wont allow the tire to go that far up in the wheel well. Also keep in mind I don't have a leaf spring in the way. I converted the rear suspension to a coil over set up.
