    So I think I know the answer to this, but I wanted to hear opinions from seasoned members. I've been trying to find a straight body 70 Roadrunner to restomod. In my searching I ironically came across 68 Satellite that an older body guy had been restoring for a couple of years. Had a mechanic friend check it out with me and everything is in great shape and it runs (Seller installed a 440). Interior is also been redone and looks great.

    So now I'm at a crossroads because the price is right on it, but investing a lot of money in a Satellite most likely won't be something I can get back. I was planning on restomodding anyways, so getting any sort of return wasn't something that may have been in the cards. Also I'm trying not to go into the project with that mindset of selling later. I understand this is subjective, but I wanted to get an outside perspective on the pros and cons going with a Satellite. Thanks for you time!

    Funny thing is, years ago a restored RoadRunner would have been far more valuable than a restored Satellite. Now resto-mods have surpassed most restored "anythings" save the rare '71 Hemi Cuda convertibles blah, blah, blah.

    Buy the car you can
    * afford
    * enjoy
    * and will use

    Don't get hung up on the value at the end. Not so long ago, I would have argued against this position, but time they are a changin' my friend.

      A Satellite is just a trim level up from a Belvedere. Same with a Sport Satellite, road runner, or GTX. Same car, added parts. You can probably get it cheaper than a rr or GTX and build it the way you like.

        I like the idea of a Satellite for a car that will be modified. Don't pay more up front for a VIN number that won't add much to the process later if the car isn't kept stock. This is coming from a guy who has owned six numbers matching GTXs.

          If you going the resto mod route anyway why not get a lower priced Satellite and save the few original Road Runners that we have left. Agree with all said above, and the resto mods are getting crazy money in today's market.
          And yes you know the answer already.

            Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to negotiate with the seller and see if we can close the deal. If things go good I'll post some pictures when I get it home.

              I have a Road Runner. Blew the 383 up years ago. Sold the 23-spline and got an 18-spline. Sold the 8-3/4 and will likely install something like a Dana. Stock wheels are long gone. Front discs have been upgraded. Original hood is gone in favor of a glass 6-pack style. Original bench seats have been swapped for the proper buckets from a Sport Satellite. Original shifter swapped for a Hurst Super Shifter. Originally y2 Yellow but will be Hemi orange.

              So other than the VIN and some badging, what makes it a RR ?!?!?

              If the Satellite is a good deal and you like it you'd be a fool not to jump on it !!!

                    I’ve owned my 68 Satellite since 1981.

                    One of 319 383-4bbl 4 speed non-Sport Satellites.
                    I like that it’s a little bit odd ball.

                        Do it!!! It already has a 440 in it. Make the car that you want without worrying about modifying an original, super rare car. Sounds like a bargain if you can get it.

                          Everything went good and the car is purchased and home. I was a bit off on my original information. It's a 1969 Satellite, not 1968. It was originally a 318 car before being replaced with the 440. Has factory AC/Heat. Front and back bumpers will need to be replaced. I need to finish the interior and fix a couple electrical issues, but for the most part everything is done. Now I have to plan out what to start with first on the modding. Here are a couple pictures. The car is a bit dusty. I won't be able to get it cleaned up until the weekend unfortunately.

                              ah, don't worry,,, the bottom line now is not Belvedere vs satellite vs road runner, it is about having a B body at all. They all are very valuable,,, and going up by the month.

                              there are those that have, and those that have not one.
                              like 68 Chargers,,, who cares what it came with,,,,

                                Don't get hung up on getting your money back out of it. How many cars have you bought and they depreciated to nothing over the years. Muscle cars maybe a little different but still a car you can get years of enjoyment and still get decent money out of. If its less than you got in it so be it look at the fun you had with it and if you never intend to sell, like me, then it really don't matter does it. Life's short, live it up

                                  NICE!

                                  I'm still gathering information as I find it with the vehicle. It looks like the rear end is a 8 3/4. The sellers were unsure of the gearing. Is there anyway to finding this out other than cracking it open? The 440 is out of a 74' Dodge Camper Special pick up. I'm unfamiliar the differences between a truck 440 like this vs. something that would have been in a car. Anyone have any idea? Thanks for your time!

                                  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say its either a 3.23 open or possibly a 2.73
