anyone know a good way to reattach the chrome piece on the rear of the door glass without
using new glass setting tape? The old tape is intact but no longer holds the piece to the glass
but fits snug.

There are tons of glues out there that may work but why would you not want to fix it correctly. It is not like the the setting tape is expensive or not available? I use the 1/16" stuff for all of mine. Some people use the 3/64". They guys at Muscle Car Restoration told me the 3/64" tape is too thin and will not hold properly. Maybe that is your problem.

Thanks for the reply I know I know it's best to do it right and I have on everything so far just
was ready to assemble the doors and don't have any setting tape on hand. I will order some more and do it right.

Scott,
Wish I had known as I could have easily enclosed a piece with the vent window seals.
