69 Hemi Charger Heat Riser Installation Trouble

I am installing the heat riser in my 69 Charger RH exhaust manifold; all was going well till I test fit the counter weight only to have the close position stop plate interfere with the retaining springs. Looks like I need to modify the counterweight??

Has anyone needed to modify their counterweight?? What am I missing??

Any help / pictures would be greatly appreciated.
