Hey all you 70 Roadrunner guys. I’m wanting to install some turn signal lights in the call out bezel on the hood. Obviously it wasn’t equipped with them. I’m thinking all bezels could have received them otherwise they wouldn’t have casted the mounting studs into the part. Have any of you successfully added them? Is it as simple as drilling a couple of holes, and using a carbide bit to hog the metal out flush? Will the pot metal fatigue and break clean like a knock out in an electrical box? Makes me wonder how they prepared the part at the plant.

The factory cast them with holes in them. Smooth, straight, ready to assemble, too much labor for the factory to cut them out.

You would be better off trying to buy one that is correct. Lots of faffing around if you proceed with modding a blank.

What part of NZ are you in? I built a black 73 Cuda 340 that’s in Auckland. I designed the hood scoops to be functional with a switch under the dash operating a power door lock solenoid. Thanks for your input but probably not that big of a deal to make work. Was just wondering if any have done the conversion.

I'm in East Auckland - Half Moon Bay to be precise.

I know of a few Cuda's here.....but not specifically the one you're referring to..... when did it arrive here?

I converted one, pretty much exactly the way the OP described doing it. I used a dremel to open up the holes for the signals and just tapped the existing holes. At the time I was able to buy the rest of the parts to finish it out new.

Thanks for the info Bob. I haven’t purchased the lights yet but they look like, once a guy hogs out the metal they will drop over the studs and then install cut nuts to secure and tie into the factory wiring. When you say buy the rest of the parts what do you mean?

I meant light assembly and wiring. The parts I bought just dropped right straight in. I don't know what you can get for reproductions these days.
