After 15 successful years since the rebuild of my Charger’s 727 during restoration, it is acting up. Went to back my Charger out of the garage yesterday and as I was doing so the car lurched to a stop as if I had jammed it in to Park. I put it in neutral then back in to reverse and it worked fine. I then took a successful ride around the block. Upon getting home I figured I would check the trans fluid and linkage. I had not checked the fluid in a while, the trans doesn’t leak. While jockeying the car in to the garage the reverse “lock up” happened again then cleared as I moved the shifter. Ok, here is the worst part…so I put the car in neutral and checked the fluid level which was low, fluid visible on the end of the stick maybe a pint and a half low. Fluid looking a little brown. I replenished the fluid and the car (running, with no one in it, in neutral for maybe 5 to 10 minutes) just starts rolling forward as if idling in drive! Thankfully I was near the driver door not in front! So right now I have “drive” in every gear shift position except with the car in park. I am not skilled enough to fix this and will have the trans professionally done, but what do you all think is going on? The shifter shifts fine, the linkage is hooked up, I have not disconnected the linkage yet to see how the trans lever moves.
