75-up Rallye wheel center caps

Just a quick Question on the center caps that have the punch out. I have NEVER seen these on any FACTORY 72-4 B-body ONLY later 75-up models. I had some guy tell me that all 72-4 spares used those style caps and I have never seen any with a punch out center cap on a spare in 72-4. I told him they were used on all 4 wheels 75-up and he told me:
"whatever dude I've been driving Mopars all my life and the punch outs are for the spare wheel back in the day when you got a set of rallies you got 5 instead of 4 and the fifth one always had the punch out because it was the spare! My information is fact! Case closed end of discussion"
That being said these caps were used on all 4 wheels 75-up right??

to my knowledge and from what I've seen including a couple I've owned, the spare Rallye wheel didn't even have a centercap. you were supposed to transfer it over. if they did have a cap , how were you supposed to secure the spare in the trunk without bitching up the preinstalled cap? the 76 Aspen I had used punch outs on all four 14" wheels and no centercap on the spare. it was an unmolested original, but... you never know. I wish I had a definite answer for you.

I've got 2 sets of the later rallyes plus a spare and I'm thinking none of the centers have a punch out. I'd have to get in the trunk to be sure about that because I haven't had that spare out for years. Kinda recall it having an opening but no plug for it.

As for clamping it down in the trunk, pretty sure ya'd have to put it face down. That's what I always did with my polycast wheels with the pop off centers (kinda like Rallye II's). On a side note, back in the day did have one of those destroyed when the tire shop monkey tried to dismount the tire without taking the base off the rim.

I believe the 75 model b body and later came with a removeable center piece. Basically the same look a the earlier models. 15" rims were 6.5 wide not 7 inch wide like the 70-71.

I bought a 75 Road Runner new with 14 inch rally wheels. They had the punch out and strangely the spare wheel had a center cap installed from the factory. I remember thinking it was very strange.

I think I have the correct answer for you. I have a '75 Road Runner that I factory ordered in 1975. I took delivery on Friday, June 13th, 1975 and I have owned the car since. Standard equipment includes 14 inch Rallye Wheels without trim rings. All five wheels have a centre dome. All four driving wheels have the centre punch out cap. The spare is mounted in the trunk without the centre cap and the tie-down goes through the centre of the Rallye Wheel dome where the punch out cap would be.

The idea was that if you mounted the spare, you moved the punch out cap to the spare, now driving wheel. That relieved the need to unbolt the centre dome and move it to the driving wheel. No further need for a wrench. You could install the cap at the road side when you mounted the spare and no need to fiddle with it later.

So, someone told you "My information is fact, case closed, end of discussion". Anytime I hear something like that, it's usually wrong and it sounds more than a little suspect. You can take it with a grain with a salt whenever you hear such nonsense, in the future. The last time I heard something like that was some dim light bulb telling me that a '69 440 6 Barrel Road Runner actually had a six barrel carburetor. Yeah, right.
