Ed you and your family are in our prayers.....

As others have stated the next thing coming your way will be much better and fulfilling.....

In regards to selling the car dont be so fast and think about what you can change/inmprove in the interim to keep from letting the X go......

God Ed, this is nothing short of a horror story! Like a nightmare. However if anybody has the intestinal fortitude to survive this unscathed, it's you! I am in full agreement with don't sell the car unless all else is exhausted. Get unemployment and take what ever small job that helps you to keep going. Maybe inspecting fire systems or something similar. I am not sure but I heard that you can help stretch funds by paying some bills partially. Example: You can pay something like $25 toward a larger bill, especially medical stuff, and although they won't like it, they can't do anything about it. I will pray for you and yours like many others on this site. Take care and keep the faith, things will get better! :(

Agree again with the guys, don't sell the X yet, unless is absolutely necessary and is the last option in the list, you are a smart guy and something new and great is in your way, just hang on a little.

That is important Ed,never stop paying anything, pay what you can,it will go a long way. And don't be to proud to ask for the benefits that you have been paying for for decades! People who never paid in a dime have no problem taking advantage of the system! You have done your part!

Good luck to you in finding a job. Going forward once you're re-employed, if you can build up 3-6 months worth of living expenses that you keep in a savings account that you never touch except in an emergency it will work to your benefit in the future.

Thanks Don. Yes, I'm well aware of all that and it's good advice...
Unfortunately, all the medical stuff has long since wiped any nest eggs out.
Hey, I know I was blessed to just make it and at least have some savings to throw towards all that...
The recent work with getting the "bucket list" things done around here took the rest and things
would have been fine had they actually lived up to their obligations...
but in the end, I've seen people do some really evil stuff over money and this is no exception.

                    Hi, Ed.

I'm sorry about your current situation. You must forgive and not let bitterness or resentment take hold of you. When you do, the Lord will bless you in an unexpected way. I have experienced this myself more than once after others have treated me poorly.

I was fired for health reasons in spite of being on FMLA at work and applying for early retirement based on disability which, thankfully, I was approved.

So, speaking from experience, have you thought about Social Security Disability? Especially, given what you said about your health. Find a law firm near you that will file for you. Don't try it on your own unless you have one of the listed health issues that automatically get you approved. It takes a while to get approved and by federal law, the law firm you hire is entitled only to a small portion of your backdated pay.

Have you "cut the cord"? It means cancelling cable tv, if you have not already, and using over the air (OTA) antenna for local channels, the internet to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or a streaming service like AT&T TV, Sling TV, etc. You can also get rid of your land line and just use a cell phone. There are several prepaid plans available. I use Republic wireless for $20 a month since I mostly use data over wireless networks at home and family member's homes.

Utility companies usually have programs like averaging, etc. to help you budget for monthly bills.

I hope this helps and will pray for you and yours.

                    Roger

Sorry to hear about your situation, Ed. Can't help but believe that with all the prayers and good thoughts coming your way, you will be fine. Remember, it's always darkest just before the light...
themechanic's suggestion about SS Disability is a good one to explore. I did it when I was 57. I applied by myself and, like you, had a knack for writing and keeping all health related, pertinent paperwork. I was approved in short order.
We're all pulling for you and your wife to come through this 'blip' in the road.
Also, as multimopes and chargervert have said, always pay something on every bill, even if it's only $10.00. Once, when I was just out of surgery a few weeks, the hospital demanded a payment of $2,500. that was not covered by my insurance because it was a 'new' year and I hadn't reached my deductible. My insurance company had been billed $1,200. for the procedure. I went to the hospital billing office and pleaded with the clerk, and then the manager, to pay the same as the insurance company. They told me that isn't the way it works. I said fine. Either I pay you $1,200. in full today or I'll pay you $25. a month until the $2,500. is paid off. They huddled in the back and then the manager said she would take the $1,200. and mark the bill as "Paid In Full". So, as you see, there is flexibility in the policies.
                        Stay positive, friend...
                        Dave

With your experience try knocking on the door of any local factories, malls or wharehouses for facilities type of jobs. Difficult to find good facilities guys at any level, especially if you have any understanding of building and fire codes, same with HSE type of jobs.

'Pipe Fitter' is a fairly well respected trade is it not?

...and electronic systems experience as well.

Well, he was actually quoting me :).
I'm the one with all the holes in me and cool scars and all that, but you know that gig all too well I suspect.
                                    Appreciate the kind words!

Well, I'm a bit long in the tooth to be humping pipe, but I've done plenty of it as a younger man. :)

Oh oops. :BangHead:. But honestly no I don't remember any of it. (Which is good). It was about 16 years or so back too that it was done. But I got the scar to prove it.
