I have recently grabbed up a '69 Bee with an A833 4spd. I want to change the oil in it and am wondering about what oil to put into it and how much. I read good things about the Redline products. Any advice? I am most concerned about over filling it and am having trouble finding the recommended filling capacity for it.
Thanks!

Old style 4 speeds do NOT like synthetic. The brass blocker rings don't grab well with it causing gear clash. Newer manual transmissions have clutch material on the blocker rings that is compatible with synthetic. Though I use synthetic in my engines and axles my manual transmissions get standard 90/140 which works fine.

The factory used ATF, but I use Pennzoil Syncromesh.

If I drain the trans, how much oil gets it to the level it needs to be?

Not sure when the factory started using ATF but never saw it in any of mine until I bought a light duty 74 D100 pickup with a 3 speed manual trans.

Fill it to the bottom of the fill hole like you do on the rear end....

call Royal Purple and talk to their support staff. I went with Royal Purple with no problems. Royal Purple in the Dana 60 rear end and BR break in oil in the new stroker. Will do BR twice then switch to Royal Purple.

When I had my '69 Dart, it came with 90W gear oil from the factory. It shifted better with ATF, but you could hear gear rollover when it was hot. What worked best was Ford Tractor hydraulic oil, which was used on their internal wet brakes. It shifted fine when cold and was still quiet.

Mine is the best shifting A833 I've ever driven, 90/140 standard gear oil. It shifts unbelievably quick for a stock trans.
