Hi all, I have a 68 RR with the Carter carb on it. It has been
Rebuilt but not really feeling the love for this carb. Intake is stock, what are some reccomendations for a new one?

I use the Edelbrock 1405. Set it up and forget about it. Harder to start after sitting a while than a Holley, but just prime it. No big deal.

Most people want a bigger carb, but I think it's fine for a dum 383.

The Eddy AFB's work very well. Just don't go overboard on CFM. 625 is more than enough.

the 650 edelbrock avs is nearly identical in venturi area and throttle bore size as a stock 335hp 383 avs. should make a nice replacement because there aren't any emissions built into it. the issue with emissions with the start carbs isn't difficult to overcome. i like the stock avs for simplicity and ease of maintenance. any of the edelbrock carbs should be easy to maintain.

Holleys are great for racing because it's easier to change jets and do other adjustments at the track, but for the street I will take an AFB every time. Virtually trouble free and they don't leak. Plus they just look right on a big block Mopar.

I am starting to like this site. No one has recommended 1000 cfm double-pumper or a tunnel ram yet. :)

I had a Holley 750 vacuum secondary on my 66 Satellite 383 built to 69 RR specs. Crisp throttle response, ran great!
