Alright guys tried many different connections and can’t figure it out. I am burning the blue wire from the alternator to the alt regulator everytime I connect the battery. The colors are a little mixed up but here’s my lay out right now with a few pics and color coded diagram that doesn’t full match my colors due to knee harness.

pink wire (blue/yellow in diagram) from ignition switch goes to ignition resistor with blue wire from alternator reg and wire from alternator.

green wire is alt reg to alternator

other side of ignition resistor is brown wire from coil and pink wire (brown in diagram) from ignition switch.

it could be as simple as wrong gauge wire however it’s the same size on the stock alternator regulator so I’m doubting it.

here’s some pics thanks for the help again guys

Unfortunately, I can not help with your question because I have a 72. I am actually trying to do wiring just like you and may I ask where you got your color coated wiring diagram from? That thing looks awesome and very helpful vs the black and white.

www.classiccarwiring.com I think like 20$ but we’ll worth it. Good luck

The isolated field brushes are missing from that alternator. Appears the wires are screwed to the alternator case at the brush assembly mounting screw locations, dead short. That will light up wires every time.

do it yourself a favor... clean up all that mess first and make it once again

then get this brushes and isolation kit

DON'T GET THIS ONE, which even is similar and also is made for the dual field alts is for the earlier ones ( round and square backs ) but the alternator you got is a LATERS squareback where one of the isolators ( 90 degrees one ) is DIFFERENT AND DOESN'T FIT on your alt ( even the brush is still the same

Those brushes will get the wires you have attached to the case at this moment

for a while you have those wires screwed to the case, you'll get a death short as soon you put the key in RUN, because the blue wire ( originally blue ) which feeds one of the alt fields comes straight from ign circuit. The green wire is a regulated ground coming from regulator, that won't cause a short, but the blue will

That’s for the help was definitely a problem but still did not fix my problem. Wire still burned up with new alternator.

Your still missing parts.. The brushes are now installed but there is no insulators...

Look at the picture.. You can clearly see one insulator between the bush & the case.... But both brushes have insulators...

Just stolen my words. The round things on the pics I shown are insulation washers, to keep the prong isolated from screw, which is screwed of course to the case.

BTW it seems you changed the alt too. The other one is more efficient

First picture is your alternator, no insulator washer....

Second picture is correct with insulator washer..
