This was my brother's car until about 3 months ago. He left it to me when he passed away. He owned it over 20 years so I have done a lot of maintenance to the car over the years. I don't know much about older cars electrical or charging system. I know there should be a wire on this clip on top of the alternator, but I have no idea where it should go.

That brush is a grounded brush. Do not put a wire on it unless you enjoy smoke. You could find a terminal in a doner harness or some type of cap to go on it. You also could take the brush out and trim that male spade off of it.

Everything works as it should that's why I left it alone. Thanks

Original 62-69 Alternators look like this...

Your alternator has been rebuilt but they no longer service the early style grounded brush so you use the late style brush and discard to insulating washer....

And here's a late style brush with the insulated washers...
