I have already replaced the flimsy fiberboard/cardboard glove box, rear package shelf, and trunk divider on my '72 SSP with stainless steel fabricated replacements. Now it's on to the sun visors. I decided to perforate them to lighten up the 18 gauge weight some.
From a safety standpoint I would like to see them padded/covered. I guess one side could be some kind of transparent plastic, or just cover 'em up in headliner fabric and a little foam to keep it our little secret, like a hidden treasure.
Just a suggestion, DON'T make your sunvisor out of metal. No one ever expects to have an accident but if you did you do not want a piece of metal at your headline. As for going to far, it's your car and what you like to do so no you're not going too far.
