So I have two, the one on the right pulled from my 68 'X and the one on the left pulled from a '69 'X....both manual brakes.

I believe the right "style" for 68 / 69 manual brakes MC is the one on the left.

I believe the one on the right is something like a cardone replacement.

Because I'm thinking cardone is not OEM I'm wanting to rebuild the one on the left but it is out of a 69 and mine is a 68. Looking at parts lists it seems the 68 and 69 manual brake MCs and kits are different between 8 and 9. What is the difference be 68 and 69? Visually I see none. Looking at the FSM didn't help resolve it.

Can anyone help me sort this out and send me down the road to select the best candidate for the build and understand differences between 8 and 9? Both MCs are rebuild-able.....and have reasonable bores.

I believe the one on the left, definately.....is your car 4 wheel drum? The one on the right looks like one for front disc. Get a picture with the lids off. Are both front and rear reservoirs the same size on the one on the right? Larger rear = disc. The one on the left should be equal sized.

So interesting point.....both are off of 4 wheel drum brake cars. The one from the '69 (left) has a larger rear reservoir even though it had drum brakes.

So we all agree the square variety is the one. Now why with the square variety is there a difference in the kits between 68 an 9?

maybe I'm crazy about the 8 and 9 being different! I just checked NAPA and they list the same kit. Other sites seemed to have a different kit.

The master cyl (69) on the left does appear to me, to have a larger rear reservoir? Am I seeing this correctly? If you turn the master cyl upside down, look at the casting numbers, cast into the cyl bore. Post the number here, so we can see if it is truly
a disc brake master cyl.

The square master cyl. Does have a larger reservoir at the rear, but it is a drum master none the less. I do not have a 1968 parts manual, but my 67 and 69 mopar parts manuals have the same number for the master cyl. rebuild kits. It is hard to imagine 1968 would be different from 67 and 69, but with chrysler you never know.
