Any Roofers out there?

I got the check in the mail the other day. Here is what I need to know. The check is for 6900.00 Talking to the roofer he says thats the first check for materials. Then there is a second check on completion of the job. My insurance guy broke it down to me like this.

10,400
2500 deperciation
1000 deductable.
6900.00 check. Is there really 6900.00 worth of materials?
The $6900 is your net after the deductions. They priced out doing your roof at $10,400. The $6900 you got from them is all you're getting. What was the estimate from the roofer who came to look at your roof today?

That new estimate was 7300.00 But he said there were a couple things the adjuster missed on the roof that needed to be adressed. And he would negotiate with the adjuster to fix those issues.

If the roofer calls the adjuster and says he's doing the roof for $7300, they might use that as their new starting point and make their deductions from there and you might have to give them back some of the $6900 they already paid you. I would pay the extra $400 out of your own pocket and be happy you got a new roof for $400 and not tell the insurance co anything.

The shingles are 50 year shingles as is the felt which he said was synthetic he included drip edge, ridge cap all new vents painting my furnace vent to match the roof. 10 year leak proof warranty. They have super feedback on facebook over 200 people talk about how fantastic they are. You are correct about the money though. I will talk to the roofer guy again in a day or so.

Your new roofer sounds like a stand up legitimate guy. If you're honest with him he won't hurt you at the insurance company. Like stated $400 out of pocket, plus the little extra he found puts you ahead of the game. 25% depreciation off $7300 is much more than the $400. All the insurance company wants to or needs to know is that you have a new roof.

I will call another roofer today.. Have them come out and look at it. The guy never gave me any kind of number. He said he would show me the proposal but he also wants to get the check the same day.. Is that odd?
YES.

Ok wow what a weird turn of events.. So I politely sent the RoofUS guy a message saying Im having another guy look at my roof. This guy instantly starts talking about a signed contingency paper which I did sign. Not really understanding that I obligated myseld to a 20% charge if I dont use them.. Since they "secured" the insurance claim. Now with that being said.. Basically trying to strong arm me into them doing my roof. But every cloud has a silver lining. My mortgage is owned by both me and my wife. Which requires both signatures for the check. I would think a contract would also require both homeowners to have signed the paper. She signed nothing and that paper he has that I signed is worthless without my wifes signature.. Now since they tryed to strong arm me Im going to stick it to these ********..

....Im not getting any of this.
How they secured the insurance claim and this contingency paper.
Do yourself a favor. While everybody is well meaning, I think you need to speak to someone or agency who knows exactly what's going on.
It doesn't sound right

Im going to contact a lawyer.. These ******** arent getting a dime from me.

No it has me,my wife and my mortgage companys name on it.
I wouldn't even waste my time/money talking to a lawyer. Let them try to sue you. Then you can talk to a lawyer.

IMO, they are just venting frustration. They thought they had a dumb *** and could force your hand. My word to you is never sign anything until you are satisfied with your choice. You definitely have the upper hand in the way the check was made out, let them find out the hard way.

Yea it was the Roofer local guy that pointed out to me that my wife was on the mortgage as well as the check and not on the "contract" so kudos to Elite roofing.. The RoofUS guy changed his tune when I mentioned that my wife has to sign the check as well. And he changed gears.. So Im done with that ROOFUS company. Im going with the Elite guy.. SUE ME ******* CANT GET BLOOD OUT OF A TURNIP.

A stop at the DA's office is free. It may save some frustration for another local. If there is something not right with their dealings a nasty letter from the local DA's office will change their tune in a hurry.

Great thought!

I have something to add to this conversation.

I just recently had the -whole real deal- done to my house. New roof and gutters. They were not cheap but I am moving on with a sound company that will stand by their effort.

When I started shopping -my interest was focused on the product. I did not want to endure the huge drain of dealing with the low bidders. (effort/time/frustration/etc all has value to me)
Maybe I am at a place where I just don't want to spend ten dollars just to save five dollars.:p
In my case I am happy--I got what I ordered and my only calls are about any issues I have that will promptly be dealt with by proper contract from the upfront connection.

A low bidder hangs his hat on price. --A quality bidder hangs his hat on the product.

I agree but you have to weed out the fly by nighters too who act like they deal in quality product and work ethics but really don't.

I dismissed the "fly by nighters" just like I deal with random phone call scammers.

A small company has a huge gauntlet to endure because of all the scammers that effort to take a piece of their game.
If they chose to scam their product they will enjoy the long term profit from their working model. Be a scammer or grow your business. They are not the same.
