There are over half a dozen slightly different kinds, for $20 to almost $100.

Seems like an easy way to get an accurate speedometer for multiple cars in various states of build, independent of finding the proper trans gear.

I'm currently using my phone, but the battery drain is pretty severe.

The main question is- are they accurate?

the GTX has one in it, clocked by phone and by chase vehicle, spot on.. not sure who makes it, but will find out

I use an app in my IPhone. It has a reverse feature so you can have it as a heads up display.
The basic version is free.

Garmin has nice readout screen for road speed.

You can buy an escort 9500 radar detector fairly cheap used nowadays. It automatically displays GPS speed while giving you some speed detection warning as a plus.

Is anything like this available in an actual store?
I have never bought anything from ebay, amazon or rock auto, don't think i ever will.

Phone battery drain why? Just plug it in and all is good.

I do, and it stays at the same charge % as it was when I plugged it in, unless I turn the GPS app off.

I use the Speedometer app on my android phone with a standard power port charge cable and have had no problems. A small invertor and wall charger may solve the charge problem.

I don't have any "problems", I'd just like to know if anyone's used one of the inexpensive GPS speedometers and what their experience has been.

Thanks for asking, I want to get one to use until I can afford the Dakota Digital.

Not one of those but I am running an electric Autometer gauge with their GPS setup, love it!

So the unit you have posted is not GPS, it is for cars with a OBDII port.

Really?

it came up under a search for "GPS speedometer".

I found it strange that it would display RPM and Coolant temp. Under specs there is nothing about GPS.

RPM can come from- believe it or not...the cigarette lighter.

I have an accelerometer that does 18th and quarter male times that gets it's RPM data from the lighter plug. It's surprisingly accurate.

I put the correct speedo gear in the trans. Factory speedometer is +/-2mph with my phone GPS.
