thinking it might be time for a break because I think I'm losing my mind. Are the calipers supposed to be in the front side of the spindles?

That is right and as long as bleeder is on top your are good

71-4 on the back from the factory so you mind is fine Can run them on the fronts like on my 72.

As bm02tj said your bleeder should be at the highest point. If is at 3 o'clock you'll have an air bubble you can't get out.

Thanks, the bleeder is on top but the hose points towards the front of the car. The service manual kinda shows the bleeder up but the hose pointing back. The only I see this possible is if the calipers were towards the front of spindle. I took the car apart over 2 years ago.

They fit just fine until I tried to connect the hose

If your calipers are on backwards, your brakes will only work in reverse. {rimshot}

Sweet, I'll just drive in reverse. Good thing I haven't installed the seat yet

I'd wait for somebody known more than I but is it a kit or a stock setup? Seen kits with front caliper mounting. Is it possible you have the right spindle on the left and left on right. Don't go ripping in to it until you get more answers. If it's a kit call them and email pictures to them.

Edit: Looked on My Mopar at a 73 service manual looks like they mount to the rear. Something doesn't look right, duh.
2nd edit: looks like hose should go to back of car. If you put the caliper in first picture ( left side on the right side) would the hose face to back of car and would the bleeder be at the highest point?

Thanks for the input, I've bought 2 sets of calipers from 2 different places and they are the same. My shop is about a mile from YearOne and I stoped in there to take a look at theirs and unfortunantly they are out of stock. I'm convinced that they go behind the spindles and I'm convinced I'm doing something really stupid. The saga continues.

So maybe they do go in front and all I need to do is rebuild my entire front spindle assemblies.

They can go in the front just check and make sure you have proper travel

Actually I'm sure it is supposed to be centered , you got something jacked up there bud , spindle offset??

Thank's Guys,
I went to see my friend Mr. Peabody and his pet boy Sherman and they gave me a ride in their Wayback machine. Well, way back in June 2014 I took this picture when I first found the rust in my frame rails and it shows the calipers were in front of the spindles. Gotta love this car restoration hobby, now I get the pleasure of disassembling my front end and putting it back the correct way. Life is good.

I would go to Napa. they should have just about anything you need. Good quality and less money.
