B Body -71 steering shaft

please, see projects pics here http://1drv.ms/23zFQ0v

Fixing my mopar engine bay and found welded column shaft. Need to find good solution. Need to fix it now when 440 engine is out a bay. Local rules and regulations do not accept welded steering parts here.
How to fix it. What are your thoughts on it.

Thank you guys and work safe.

Your charger was an orginal power steering car or someone used a power steering column. the extension was a quick fix. Manual steering column is the fix I will send you a PM with a name and number to call for someone who has a column for sale. Tell him you were discussion the column with Robert from Aurora CO

Locate and purchase a used replacement shaft and install it.

I cut that out and sleeve it with a piece of chrome moly tube and have it tig welded. No one will ever see it and it will be plenty strong. I agree, I wouldn't trust that cold fusion bugger weld.
