The reverse lights on my Roar runner aren't working. First, I discovered that the car was missing the backup lamp harness, so I installed one. Still not working. I popped off the tail lenses to discover no bulbs. Installed bubs. Still not working. Cleaned bulb sockets and verified power. Issue seems be the sockets aren't grounding properly. If I use a small piece of wire and ground from the socket to the car, they work. Anyone have a suggestion as to why the socket bases aren't grounding properly? The taillights/brake lights work fine.

Erik - the 71 rear light bulb sockets are swaged into the housings.
If you try to remove them you will destroy them.
Over time, corrosion gets in-between the bulb socket & housing there by losing the ground.
Grounding the sockets individually is the solution. Some guys remove the original bulb sockets and replace with Dorman style ones but it's quite a bit of work doing that.

Ron Francis wiring has some neat sockets that can be fitted if you decide to remove the originals, but the Ron Francis stuff is $$$.

Thanks. I installed wires for now. They work and you will never know the wires are there unless you take off the lenses.
