Is having the ignition coil wired to the ballast resistor all that important ? I understand the only reason for resistor on spark plugs, particularly on old vehicles is to eliminate radio noise interference. Does the ballast resistor do anything more than that ? I would think that eliminating it might create a stronger ignition coil spark ? Has anyone eliminated it ? I eliminated my original Am stereo.

It sounds to me like you are confusing the radio noise suppression capacitor usually mounted on the ignition coil bracket with the ceramic mounted ballast resistor which lowers ignition primary current to prolong ignition contact point life.
