Looking for a little advice from you guys. I am getting parts ordered for a 451 stroker motor that will be going in my 69 Road Runner this winter. I used a Holley 770 Street Avenger on my 440 in the Charger and am happy with it, so would like the same on this motor. I am having a hard time deciding on the 770 or should I bump up to the 870? Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Stealth heads, 10:1 compression, 4-speed, 28" tall rear tires, 3.91 rear gears (these might get swapped for 3.55), solid roller rocker cam (the grind hasn't been picked yet), TTI 1 7/8" headers with their 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust and h-pipe, Dyno Max Ultra Flow mufflers. The engine builder is estimating 520 hp and 560 ft. lbs. Spirited street driving. What say you engine gurus?

With your horsepower goal I'd have too believe your going to be running the rpms north of 5,500 so I'd go with an 850 or 870. I'm running the same motor (456 do to some rusty bores that needed allot of cleaning) and it runs really well with the 870 Holley Street Avenger other than it was really lean on the primaries, I'm going to try a 850 double pumper hopefully soon to see how it likes it before I get it dyno'd. I might add that my 3:55s are perfect for 0-55 mph cruising but the 70 mph freeways are a bit much (3,100 rpm).

On big cube engines, I like the double pumpers. I think they are also easier to tune. I'd be looking at at least an 800 or 850.

Street driving ? Already have the carb ? Id just use it, the alternatives wouldn't make that much difference for the $$

I followed Holley's recommendation and went with the vac sec and have been second guessing it ever since, I'll be curious to see how the DP works out. My last car was a 406" with a DP and I loved it so we'll see.

on my 505 everyone recommended a 850 or 950, i spoke to patrick at prosystems and he built me a 1000cfm custom carb that run perfect OOTB with only an idle adjustment and it was only $100 dearer than a holley or quickfuel

I would go right to a Holley 950 or a Quick Fuel 850.

I use the basic Holley 850 DP on my 440/493 in my 63. It drives really great on the street and runs 10's at the track with it. I am very happy with it even though I feel it would be faster with more carb. But it is a very nice all around street/strip carb and it would run nice on your 451. I really feel I need more carb and with your 451 I would use an 850 or more if you want good performance and nice street manners. My 850 is almost all stock as all I have done is jet it , change the power valve that is in the primary side only and drill the squirters and throttle plates a small amount. It really does work good as the driveability is great with it on the street and it works good at the track. I just feel my eng wants a bit more carb. Ron

QuickFuel 880SS, Electric Choke/Vacuum Secondary. Unfortunately they don't make an 850 with VS/Choke, but don't think it would be a problem dialing in a 880 via air bleeds, jets, powervalve ect..ect..

My 2 cents....Either way, Torque Monster!! Better buy some spare tires Joel!
