I’m comparing some single plane intakes for my 400/470 stroker. Choices that come to mind are the eddy victor, mopar m1, and the trick flow. I’m using the trick flow 240 heads and a holly 950 XP aiming for around 600hp. Any suggestions on which single plane is best for a B engine? Maybe I missed one?

Torker with modified adaptor plate and 800 TQ. But its not trying to feed 600 ponies eather.

X2 on the Torker. I run it on my 470 with the Holley Terminator, friggin’ flawless.

I always had the impression that the Torker was an old outdated design but that’s good to know. I’ll run it by my engine builder. I was hoping to use my eddy perf rpm but the he says 600hp would be hard with a dual plane so now I’m shopping around.

If ya got efi, use a single plane.

Carbed, use a dual plane, especially for the street.

They said the torker 383 had minimal loss of low end torque even though its a single plane intake. But I wonder if it was fitted with a turtle kind of like you would do the mopar M1 intake to help with fuel distribution would help bring back that low end torque loss. Just realized that the Magnum intake pictured below would not be distributing fuel but air flow. But would the turtle help with a carb? Not real sure now that I think about it.

This is a Mopar M1 intake for a magnum 318 or 360 but the idea is the same. Center it in the floor of the intake.

Ok now I’m lost! Never heard of these “turtles” before.

Basically helps direct airflow to the runners rather than crashing in the flat area of the intake. Check out the bottom link in my post from the Brodix website.

This is a quote from that page.“Turtles” are cast aluminum manifold inserts designed by Jean Dittmer and manufactured by BRODIX®. These inserts fit in the bottom of an intake manifold to direct the flow of air and fuel mixture to increase horsepower, torque, and driveability."

I used the Torker 383 on my 451.Was very pleased with how it ran.

The new Trick Flow intake is the best one on the market. You can make it even better by port matching. I've also found that the Mopar M1 4500 is a good intake once it is ported. I've been testing low deck intakes for the past year on my 470 dyno engines and have posted a lot of articles and videos. Here is one from Hot Rod: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/test-intake-manifolds-carburetors-440-stroker-search-ultimate-power/

Don"t forget the old tm6. Will you be running a hood scoop? The tm6 and the torker are about the only two that will fit under a stock hood.

You are correct, the Torker is an outdated design. The Edelbrock Victor intake is better than the Torker for making power but the Trick Flow intake is even better than the Victor. No reason to run the old designs unless you're flat broke and have to use a swap meet intake.

If you are shooting for 600 hp with the 240 heads then you'll want to run the batwing gasket holders to get the port alignment perfect. The standard tin pan gasket won't have the port locations perfectly correct for the 240 heads which will cost you some power.

What cam are you going to run? Is this a street/strip strip or street only car? If you go to my build "trick flows on the 440"you can find some flow # comparison if you'd like. I went with the 6bbl, you'd be surprised at the results.

This was a comparison on my 440 9.9 comp, 240 TF solid roller 238/242@50 .620 lift 112lsa

unless your building a high reving engine go with the dual plane.

Haven't done anything but fiddle with the fuel mixture and a little bit of timing.
