Broken transmission cooling line....

My 26" radiator was leaking from the drivers side transmission cooling line and a little from the top where the tank meets the fins, so I was removing to bring to a local radiator shop to have it repaired and pressure tested next week.

Anyway, the cooling line that runs to the transmission from the passengers side of the radiator just wouldnt budge. The line was corroded anyway and I planned to replace it. Anyway, after struggling with trying to loosen it after an hour, I slipped and turned the whole line and bent/cracked it. After that I just continued to turn it to get the flange out of the radiator. So, the radiator is free, but now I need to replace that transmission cooling line and the flange that goes into the radiator as I rounded it a bit and still can't get it off the tranny line.

or a stainless replacement https://www.yearone.com/Product/1966-74-a-b-e-body/qrb62 for almost 2x the price?

What do you call the "nipple"/flange that screws into the radiator to accept the transmission line? Cant seem to find that :-(


Any tips or tricks when I go to reinstall the flanges into the radiator or the lines into the transmission? Its been about 10 years since I worked on cars a lot and I am a little rusty it would seem.

I did find my pipe flaring tool, so if anyone thinks I should just cut and flare the line and replace the broken section with high temp hose, feel free to weigh in.

Hard to say without pics. But any damaged pieces on or in the radiator itself would most likely result in the transmission oil cooler needing to be replaced. An easy fix for your radiator shop.
 
I went stock metal lines, when I re-did mine. The small (male both ends) brass piece can be obtained from any hardware store or napa. The part name of the one I have is from Watts, union 5/16in FL x 1/8 in MIP. Part # LFA-80D, Web site shows incorrect thread pitch on the rad side, but its the correct part, at least for a 72. Hope this helps.
 
Thanks everyone, I will replace with hose for the time being, but purchased new stainless lines from finelines since the transmission needs to get drained and serviced soon anyway.

Now to find the proper 5/16in FL x 1/8 in MIP fitting to replace the one that wouldn't budge from the cooling line.
