I have a simple question and I cant seem to find it anywhere on the net. When installing a new bronze bushing for the intermediate shaft on a 440, how should the slots be positioned? Does it even matter? Looks like there's two slots on top and then a slot on the inside down the center. I'm assuming for oil lubrication.

FSM shows it left - right but doesn’t make any note that it matters at all. Can’t see why it would.

It makes NO difference at all. It is NOT a pressurized oil feed, merely a passive oil direction. It collects oil splash, and directs it to the intermediate shaft for lubrication, that is all. It does not matter where the grooves are. There used to be replacement tower bushings that had no grooves, but thankfully, they were replaced with ones with grooves. Do not over-think this...

I agree it makes no difference....... but...... since it takes no extra effort to orient the grooves where you want...... I shoot for them going front to back, with the one inside the hole at about the 2 o’clock position.

The ones that had no grooves....... I added the grooves.
