Have a 64', 318 engine, wanting to go big block. Have access to a 77' trans from a pickup. Found a main housing/case for a cable trans. What research I did, was that the over haul kits are different. Anyone know if I can switch cases and use the 77's guts ?

Thanks

some parts may interchange but not all. cable valve bodies are different from '66 and up. i know the tail housings are completelt different. what would make the most sense is get a big block cable housing and put the 318 stuff in it.

All you need is the 63-65 big block case and tail shaft, valve body! All the internal hard parts will interchange! If you get a complete trans.(63-65 style big block) just change the front pump! That way you have a wider selection of torque convertors!

Not quite. The output shafts and tail housings are ball and trunion from 62-64. 65 tail housings and output shafts are one year only. The 62-64 valve body's are push button. 64 floor shift and 65 valve body's don't fit push button shifter's. The 77 internal parts from the center thrust washer forward will fit unless it had a lock up converter (no splines on the end of the input shaft) I have done many of these conversions and currently race a 64 Belvedere with a push button trans (9.0@150). I have the correct parts for the conversion if you're interested, PM me. I'm in SE Michigan.
