Chainsaw will start when primed, but not run

I have a gas hedge trimmer that did the same thing. I had to replace the fuel line from the pickup in the tank all the way to the carb. The fuel line looked fine, but on closer inspection after removing and cutting open, the modern gas had softened the fuel line causing it to slightly swell and close itself off in the inside. I also replaced the in tank fuel filter on mine while I was at it and even it wasn’t 100%. Something inexpensive to check.

See if there is a Diaphram in carb, sometimes they develop a leak

They also swell up from using ethanol gas and won't pulse like they suppose to or not at all. If you have no choice and have to use ethanol gas add a bit of Stabil 360.

Update: Without a doubt, it was the fuel line.
