With spring here if anyone is switching out their pan gasket what gasket did you buy and where did you get good deal. With just replacing fluid inside the factory pan what are we looking at to refill the ATF in quarts. Feedback appreciated.

Me personally, I like and use the black "cork-Rubber" gaskets from Fel-Pro. I used them for the oil pan, valve covers, and transmission pan.

I like the black neoprene gasket with formed O-rings around all the bolt holes. They were used on A518 O.D. transmissions and are only available from Chrysler parts. They are expensive ($100 up here), but do not leak and are reuseable. Factory fill is 8 quarts, or 9 litres.

I use the napa cork ones , a little balkamp gasket sealer on the pan flange, sits overnight so sealer is dry.
Make sure the flanges are all straight and dont over tighten. A nut driver or 1/4" rachet is plenty.
If the converter does not drain back start with 4 qts then add as needed on a stock depth pan.

Ordered my gasket today.
Question:
What Valvoline ATF do you suggest to put back on the pan. At this time not draining the entire fluid as it looks really clean. Also wondering if a gallon on a stock factory pan should be enough.

You'll get a bunch of answers, but I use Type F in both my Plymouths. What was in it before you drained it?

Grab a gallon and a extra qt. Just in case.
You can always return the qt or stick it on the shelf.
Lots of guys like 3wood use the type F , I use Dextron 3 or 4,
I would stay away from the synthetic stuff if you dont know what was in it.
Also now is a great time to install a drain plug kit if your pan does not have one.
Auto zone and others carry them.

Thanks will look into it.

Get a metal core pan gasket for a 47RE (~2001 Ram 2500) Not cheap but last pan gasket you’ll ever buy. I reused mine on my 01 Ram 3 times over 240000 miles, never leaked a drop. No sealant required and no scraping off old gasket nonsense. FYI, 47RE is simply 727 with lockup converter, electronic governor, and an overdrive. When I beefed up the overdrive on my truck, I used a NOS OEM Mopar rear bearing for a ‘61 Imperial .
