My knee is getting real bad so I’m seriously thinking of switching over to an automatic in my 66 Belvedere. (I’ll store all of the 4speed parts for future owners) Since the radiator has no cooler lines will an add-on cooler be enough for the street? It’s all I ever used on the race cars but that was just 1/4 at a time.
    Thanks

I use an add on only on my F body. 5300 stall to boot. No problems.

I also use a large add on cooler.Nothing fancy and works fine. Another thing you need to check is the rear of the crank. There is a converter ring in the rear flange.

Not too sure a stock block will accommodate the 4.5 stroke. My mega block was clearanced for the 4.5 stroke.
        Stroke IT!!!:jackoff::rofl:

I've driven it from Detroit to Columbus. And with a 5300 stall you know it's not driven like a Prius. Car runs 11.0@122 in street trim. We run my sons turbo car with aftermarket cooler only as well. It has run 9.55@142 in street trim.

I'd use a plate type cooler
see a picture in the EMPI catalog
1/2 inch in and out and run 1/2 in oil proof hose away from heat and sharp stuff
you will have to change or adapt cooler fittings
I do not like tube and fin coolers
you should be fine in VA
            keep us posted

Sure way to tell is look for the plugs in the cooler lines.

Repop radiator no plugs or cooler tank inside. Already had the 4.5 crank and rods-pistons in stock block, fit with plenty clearance. Using 7.045 billet rods with bb Chevy size journals, a little close to oil pickup hole but I’m using the external swinging stuff anyway. Who knows history of block could have been clearenced at one time. I’m really leaning on the 4.15 crank anyway save the 4.5 for the wedge engine. Talked to a guy sat who has pretty much same setup I want, 66 Coronet 4.15 9.5 compression small 5.20 cam and runs 11.10. I’ll be 11.5 and bigger 5.90 cam and Lupo 9” vert. At least that’s the plan right now.

sure but check the flow pull off the rear hose at the trans and fill a pint bottle
should take 20 seconds or so- If I remember correctly- lots luck ther
Mopar does have a spec on it in some of the FSM's
what's the tubing dia? at least 5/16 like the stock lines
however that was proven inadequate and Mopar went to 3/8
                and 1/2 on the diesels
so if you are going to run new HOSE use 1/2 even with the smaller tube in and out of the trans and in that cooler- hose friction loss/ packpressure makes a big differnece
I would NOT use it with a high stall or an OD trans or say a truck or motorhome
                looks like an ac condenser
If you are near a pick a part Ford pickups usually have big coolers
but you have it so give it a shot
you can always give the output a feel or a test with a heat gun after a hard run
or around town stop and go, anytime you work the converter hard

3/8 your are good to go, I'd still run 1/2 lines
