choosing mufflers

TTI’s, followed by QTP’s, followed by DynoMax Superturbos.

Dynomax Ultra-Flo on mine. I believe 17517 is the part number(?)

The exhaust on this is one of countless experiments just wondering how it would work out.
I fabbed it in my Dad's driveway about 25 years ago.

Two things make this system sound slightly different than most:
1. The entire system is the same size as the collector, which is 3.5"
2. Part of the fab project included making an X pipe crossover

I never really considered large pipes might look stupid per an earlier comment, but may have had
some awareness they stuck out because I concealed it somewhat with scuff/wax and grease remover/high temp flat black rattle can paint.

It all works well but is pretty difficult from a packaging perspective
and I don't actually recommend this combination to anyone (unless you really like
to party...in that case, have at it)

This also has the known problematic combination of 2" Super Comps and a low deck
which I also don't recommend although it does work just fine also.

Here it is at idle:

Here's an 1/8 mile pass:

I did the same on my car. 2" tube headers into 3 1/2 collectors, 3 1/2 headpipes going into same size hooker aero's, with turndowns. Probably overkill for a small block, and kinda blatant

Flomaster Flo- FX 2.5" on my 70 GTX with headers, they're SS and have a nice rumble.

That's flyin!

Thanks.
It’s what I wanted the car to be overall, so there are compromises. That was at the Mopar Madness weekend. Drove it out and back, 350-ish miles. It seems to run okay for what it is. I’m sure headers would pick it up a bit.

I run a 4inch collector to 4 inch pipe to a 4 inch hooker Aero flow muffler and an x pipe. It’s kinda quiet till you hit the go pedal

That's sweet, super blatant, and I like it. Loved the Aero Chambers, had them in 3" for several years. Might try them again someday.

Clean pass! What did it go?
Thanks Al. 7.15, 7.16, 7.17, 7.17 on that day.

I know the burnout was excessive but didn't care. My philosophy with ancient bias ply cheater slicks is: I want to do an awesome big burnout every freaking time. Because the tires will probably dry rot before I use them up anyway, and if I end up going slow, at least I looked good for a minute doing an awesome burnout.

The new silver paint job won't really look right to me until there is a little rubber added to the quarter panels LOL.

I ran 3 1/2 in/out hooker aeroflows on my Tina. They were the cheapest 3 1/2s I could find. Good sound once I got used to it (chambered muffler, but don't sound like Flowmasters), pretty quiet for what they are, and went high nines thru em. (More than doubled in price since I bought em..... but what hasnt?!)

you mentioned hooker aeros. i put a set of them through a 2.5" system with headers on my Coronet with has a midly built 400. i have used the hooker on my trucks for years. no drone, not overly loud at idle at all. i kinda wish it was louder. but sounds like a mean rumble when you get on it. would recommend.

I really like straight-thru magna-flow stuff. I generally buy stainless for my street cars. They're well made, quiet, with no noticeable power losses.

But you've got a blown Hemi, you NEED 4"pipes. I've just got a n/a small block and 3 1/2 is an overkill. It might have run better with a 3" system, but I didnt want to run a reducer.... and I had a bit of leftover 3 1/2 tubing. Headers back, including mufflers, I think I had $120 in the system. I don't think you can get one muffler for that today.

I bought the hooker aeros cause they were the cheapest 3 1/2 in/out I could find, that wasn't a ridiculously small loud race muffler, about 40% of the price of the flowmasters I used on my other car. If I remember, right, $50 ea. Ended up really liking the sound. Darn quiet for a nine second strip/street car.
They are now $155 ea at summit.
But my flowmasters have about tripled too.
