GOOD DAY .....FELLOW MOPAR OWNERS
I HAVE AN ISSUE THAT I NEED RESOLVED, OR AT LEAST AN IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT
WHEN I TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR !!
MY 67 GTX HAS A" CLUNK " SOUND WHEN I START OUT..... DRIVING DOWN THE STREET.
IT SEEMS TO BE A CLUNK SOUND BETWEEN 1st AND 2nd GEARS......YET STANGELY ENOUGH
ONLY AT THAT SPEED (10-20 ) MYRA'S CAMERA 029 - Copy.jpgmph.
THERE ISN'T ANY ISSUES AT HI-WAY SPEED,I DONT THINK ITS THE TRANNY I FEEL ITS THE
REAR-END ! MAKING THE CLUNK-NOISE
THE POWERTRAIN IS ALL ORIGINAL TO THE CAR WITH 70 000 MILES. I DID REPLACE THE OIL IN THE REAREND AND THE
TRANSMISSION DO THESE OLD MOPARS HAVE A SLIGHT WHINE IN THE REAREND ?? .........SLIGHT !!
ANY HELP HERE IS APPRECIATED . I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO A SPECIALIST

Check the level of gear oil in rear, if it is low it will sound just like you are saying.

If it's a 727 tranny you may have an issue with shift "overlap" that may sound a lot like a rear clunk but is actually caused by one band applying before the other releases. If you search on the web this is not a new issue and there are a number of remedies you can try. Just Google:

"chrysler 727 shift overlap problem"

I resolved mine with adjustments to the bands but worried about "soft" band engagement and ended up installing a TCI valve body with an incorporated shift kit. Should have done this in the first place. With the engine stopped and the car in neutral, slip under and jockey your drive shaft back and forth. There should be some play in the diff and you may even hear a subtle clunk but that's normal. If the shaft turns a large amount, diff adjustments are required or the gears are worn out. Use mileage as a "time marker" for wear but many of the better diffs could go 100,000 miles and still work fine.

Check your "CAPS LOCK" button....it appears to be stuck in the on position.

Dana or 83/4? 4speed or Auto? Check the posi unit. No whine in the rear end is normal. Take the Caps lock off and quit yelling at us! Good luck!

Check your wheel bearings. My Car made a clunking noise only driving in my neighborhood. Horrible road. When I checked the front end. I noticed that the whole wheel rotor was loose.

Thank you !!
