Guys, I know, yet another "which high-torque mini starter should I buy?" thread...I researched this AC Delco starter, 337-1096 on Amazon. Searching for a particular legit P/N on Amazon ends up with a ton of results but they're all el-cheapo Chinese knockoffs, "compatible this" and "compatible that". I wanted to stick with an actual brand name and this one seems to be compatible, is affordable and no core charge. This P/N came from RockAuto for a 1993 Dakota 5.2L.

Looking at some pics, will this work? One of the reviews is from a guy with a '68 Charger 383 saying he has to "remove the extension so the battery cable would fit".

I’ll bet it’s Chinese too.! So many folks make those and rebox them.

Name is on the box only, I’d buy one local that away if there are any issues your not paying frieght

You always have to remove the power wire extension. That's for a smallblock.
I usually just go down to part source and grab one. Delco Remys. Come with a 3yr warr. And if you do need warranty, they're right there.
Try asking for a starter for a 67 new Yorker. It will likely be a mini, for the old starter price

I used this one on my 71. No problems at all. get the cable relocation kit.

In all the ones I've put together, never used one of these personally.

You want this one: last letters of the Mopar p/n are "ac". No need for any "kit" !!

Nearly every search for these various parts numbers shows a starter with a modern black connector on it. Unfortunately when you search a part number like these, you end up with Chinese knock-offs listing "compatible with..." and having dozens of part numbers. I got the same results searching 56027702AC as Denso 228000-7421. Nearly everything I've looked at has the black modern connector or the posts pointing perpendicular outward from the side of the starter, not rearward out the back.

There are 2 different extensions available. I have used both, the vertical worked on my SB. The horizontal my Hemi.

I put a mark on your image for the problem I'm having. The gear only goes up to the blue mark but needs to go to the inside edge of the nose. I'm gonna have to go back to the heavier OE style starter. Just my luck.

That's definitely a bigger issue than merely getting the cables connected.

Sh!t, for me the cable was the easy part. My battery cable should have been changed anyway, so I bought a new longer cable and cut it to length. The smaller wire was long enough; it was just the battery cable I had to change. I don't know why, but I just cannot use these mini starters.
