So 2019 keeps bringing 1 surprise after another. About 3 weeks ago I put my semi in the shop to receive a new head. Coolant had been leaking through the injector cups. So $10000 later I'm rolling again. Today all the bells and lights start flashing and back to the shop I go. Coolant is back, this time it took 2 of the 3 filters in my DPF system. Pulling injectors to figure out which cup is leaking coolant we find this.

Out of shop this morning, they found coolant under #3 and 4 injector. So he drained as much coolant that he could. Now off to the 1st shop for a visit from a very unhappy customer.

      I dont blame you.

Ive had my pos Prostar to every damn shop in the area and cant any of them fix the damn thing. Its not a new truck but still....
Ive decided to just use the damn thing until the motor shells out.
All miles are short, local and under 55mph.

so you think the mirror was the issue? why did you not go back to the original shop in the first place? Ill never understand why people have something fixed some where then there's a problem with the work and they go to another shop. again why didn't you go back to the shop who did the head in the first place?

I am going back to the original shop. But to save time I had it diagnosed at another shop to justify leaving a $6500 load and bobtailing 500 miles back.

As far as the mirror goes, when You're paying $150 per hour you don't expect to find things in your engine that don't belong.

Roger63 are they just replacing the orings in the injectors. I hope not found issues with injector cups the pressure on the injectors keep in creasing have found several cracked cups. Pulled old ones out installed stainless steel ones problem solve. Also found bad orings from factory install and have replace head.

Wish Id never seen it. Just got it back from getting the Particulate BS worked on and the oil pan developes a crack and leaks a quart every 250 miles. Total pos

Truck itself drives very nicely. But the motor is a serious cross for Cummins to bare.

I have an isx 15 I choose a new head over replacing cups due to having 800000 miles on the motor. Cummins has a valve guide issue much like the old small block chevys did.

I believe there are some bulletins out on some of these issues. Also remember 2008 was really the first year that the emissions bullshit was in full force. And every manufacturer screwed it up. When was the last time you had a ecm upgrade also remember that every 250,000 miles that filter needs pulled and cleaned. Are you forcing regens or letting the ecm handle it.

Ddc has went to a rough cut head because of the head gasket issue they have and just did one last week time will tell if it stop the head from leaking.

Also watch your coolant for silicone drop out. The long life is only by name. Found Cummins hoses in failure and it's not from wear. Can't prove it but sure funny that failure is on the up swing since it was changed to it.

The damn thing wont regen when I try to force it. I have to take it in every 6 months. Im pissed at the mechanics, Ive taken it to 3 of them and an IH dealership. Cant none of them get the damn thing to regen when called for. Had the ECM replaced even.
Ive had different ISX 15 in Case IH tractors and they were great. Just the predef particulate models were problematic.

The cracked oilpan is common Ive been told. I was hoping to hold off until the clutch needs replaced then have the oilpan & clutch gone through.

One more gripe, the dash is backlit and the odometer NEVER goes off. If I park it for more than a few days I need to plug the battery maintainer in or the damn thing may not start.

Thanks but anyone that owns one of these climate control trucks knows it's worth it for the environment ( sarcasm)

Beekool, the next time you go to the shop you tell them to check the dozzier on the exhaust side of the turbo. They will clog up and the first thing the dealership does is reprogram the ecm. You also need to make sure it's even turned on in the ecm and have the switch on the dash checked. As for the dash goes undue the ground cable at the batteries let it sit a couple of days. Then check for voltage drop if the batteries are dead with ground off then check your batteries. If the batteries are good then I believe that there is a ground stud by the clutch rod on the bulkhead sometimes it's bad and needs replaced
