I’m in the process of swapping a 383 into my 1966 Coronet /6.
The car is a “WE21” vin, so no side chrome at all. I have the plain “coronet” emblem on the fenders, however I believe they might currently be in the wrong location. I think ‘440’ fenders (with chrome trim holes welded shut) were swapped on before it’s last repaint back in the early 2000’s. The Coronet emblem is on the upper rear of the front fenders (where the “Coronet 440” would be on 440 trim cars.
Based on available pictures of “survivor” cars I can find I plan to move the “Coronet” badges out to the front of the fenders (where 500 trim cars had it, just sans the additional 500 badge)... is this the correct location?
That leaves where should the “383 4-barrel” badges go on an Economy trim level car? Do they go out front under the “Coronet”? Or do they go back on the rear of the front fender like half way above the Penastar medallion?
A couple people I’ve talked to said there could be multiple correct locations... almost as if different assembly plants did different things... although I find that hard to believe that they would just let a guy loose with an 1/8” drill bit to decorate the car...

Should make it like this, eh? This is a Coronet Deluxe hemi restoration. I don’t think they would place them in the wrong place on this rare restoration. I’d copy this emblem placement on the gold car above.

Every trim level of the 1966 coronet had different emblem placement: deluxe, 440, and 500’s all changed where the emblems went. It’s not a difference at the plants.

PS: Your emblem placement in the post below is WAY WRONG!!! The factory didn’t put them there on a coronet deluxe. Your are up high, that’s where they go on a Coronet 440 fender.

Here is a Coronet 440 emblm placement. I think they used these fenders on your car and removed the trim and 440 emblem but left the Coronet emblem here. 9820D439-646F-4454-8B3F-8C6168D38663.jpeg

Here is Coronet 500 emblems placement, see how they are mounted mid body where the light reflection changes? C536560A-A61C-4D7E-97A2-A9397CADF2AA.jpeg

That’s what i’m trying to figure out, what is factory correct?
Nice Deluxe!

Here is my car the way it is now

I know it's a little late; but here is a pic of a 66 Coronet 440 I had in the early 70's. The 383 Four Barrel emblem was located on the front of the fender under the trim. The 66 Coronet 500 i'm restoring now has the 383 Four Barrel emblem at the midpoint between wheel opening and rear of the fender. Elevation of both was just above top of wheel opening.
