Hello All,

I just recently picked up a 1968 RM21 RR, GG1 exterior/D4L interior (parchment color) all #'s matching with the build sheet intact. Car needs quite a bit of metal but all parts to car are there EXCEPT what I believe to be the correct seats. This car will be going back completely date coded to factory ( at least that's my plan). I know for a fact the front seat is not the original but it is from a B-body of that time frame. The Back seat is probably the original based on the color from what i can tell. Here is where I am struggling; after looking online a multiple sites and Hamtramck Registry I still cant tell if a 68 should have small knobs on the back of the seat on drivers/passengers so they can flip the seat up???
My current bench seat doesn't and online pictures seem to show with or without those chrome knobs. This is also a BASE RR with a 383 and DOES NOT have the roadrunner decor package that was available... Also back to the Hamtramck site.. If i go by the back seat inlay part, i have a different insert pattern than what they show on their website. Iv seen the small diamond shape i have and i have also the bigger weave pattern listed on their pictures... Could this have changed mid production year b/c iv seen them both on Google Images of 68 RR's??? mine was built on 6/10.. thanks for all of your help!

That’s a very late 68 build. It’s within the realm of possibility they used some early 69 parts on it. Far as the seat goes, I think the bench seats from 4 door models didn’t have the provisions to flip them forward. So that might be what you have?

Thank you for the information! I had wondered if the 69 parts may be in mine but wasn’t sure with so many different pics around the internet.. does anyone have a picture of a 1968 roadrunner “base interior” that is untouched other than a rebuild to compare my seat to?

here a 68 RR Black (decore package) front black seat below
it was a folding forward seat, split 50/50 bench seat
org. from my 68 RR RM23 HT

the smooth pattern in the center of the seats (front & rears)
is usually a non Décor package, standard base model seats
they had release levers to fold the seat forward too
most of them were 2-tone also, not 1 solid color,
the center squares was a different shade if that makes any sense...

(from my experience anyway, I've owned 8) 68 RRs & 13) 68-70 RR's in total)

all 68 RR had a split bench seat, décor package or not
buckets or a console, were not available[/] in the RR, not in 1968

I sold it to a FBBO member here, a few years ago for $250
they came & picked it up, saved a few hundred in shipping

sorry that's the only photos I kept/stored

it did have the little square-ish chrome knobbed/levers
in the back on the bottom, on both sides L & R to release the seat
so people could get in & out of the back

hope it helps

here's another FBBO members front bench seat in a 68 Hemi RR
you can see the pattern better
