when mine was out of the car, i fixed with paintable silicone. applied silicone to damaged area, cover with masking tape (to flatten out), remove tape when cured, then paint.
Most auto parts and hardware stores carry 'vinyl repair kits'. They work pretty well and even have ways to texture the repair to match. I've used them on dirt bike seats with very good results. Good luck.
