Hey guys,
So I’m going this week to get a stroker engine I got off a buddy. 493 that makes 620hp. It’s a pretty reasonable street engine and my buddy drove the car about 2000 miles a year with this engine. He’s putting a gen 3 hemi in his 68 charger, so I had the opportunity to get this engine for a steal so I jumped at the opportunity. Now I can’t decide what to do. My original thought was to put the engine in my 68 charger cause 600hp charger would be awesome. Currently I have a 440 internet car with 500 miles on it. The engine makes 485hp and 550/ft lbs torque. I put a small cam in it for drivability which I regretted after the first 100 miles. But it’s a real nice engine and can light the tires at will. So now I’ve thought about putting the engine in my 67 Monaco. I built the Monaco 20 years ago and used to race it. I’ve since sold the engine that I had in it so it’s currently sits without a powertrain. I had thought to put the 440 in that car and put the stroker in the charger. But…. The charger is so nice that I’m thinking it would be better to put in the Monaco and go racing with the big c body again. I don’t want to race the charger… my dad bought the car new and it’s so nice and only has 500 miles since the restoration.
What do you guys think? The Monaco or monster-co as it’s locally known would be awesome with that kind of power. It has a few goodies like a line lock. Driveshaft loop. 4.30 gears and I have slicks for it. It used to almost lift the front wheels with 400hp with the way the weight transfer is set up. It hooked really hard but needed way more power to be great.
Either way I’ll get the Monaco going again likely this summer but not sure which way. Could use your feedback.I’ve attached a few photos from racing back in 05.

I’m loving the Monsterco! Sounds like you’ve already made the right decision. My vote is to leave the Charger be to use as a cruiser, being your dad bought it new and all. Put the big stroker in the Monaco and plan on upgrading the rear from an 8-3/4 (guessing because of the 4.30 gears) to something stronger. A big C body car pushing into the 10s is just plain cool.

I'm taking the Charger in your Avatar pic is the car your dad bought new.

If that's it, I would definitely leave it alone. Too nice to modify to the extent to make full use of the 493.

The motor will still fit in the charger if you have a change of heart after u put it into the monoco

Monaco all the way. Your Charger works and you're happy with it. Monaco probably weighs about the same as the Charger but everyone will think it's a big heavy pig and then you get to fry their bacon with it.

Correct. That is my car. The charger is nice the way it is and seeing all the comments affirms the big c body will be getting the stroker. Thanks guys. Decision made. I’ll post some updates as I get into the monsterco project. Still have 3’ snow drift to melt before I can access the car.
FYI I have a tunnel ram I’ll be putting on the Monaco. I have about 6 hoods for the car so I’ll clearance the hood for the engine. Here are a couple different pics of my charger for those interested.

I found an old pic of the monsterco. This was in 04 right after I painted it black. Was originally brown.

Well it’s been a busy year and a half. Work has sucked so much of my time. But I’ve done allot of parts trading/fixing on the side and tune ups but I finally have my tunnel ram and carbs and air cleaners. Just waiting for my Heim joints so I can connect the carbs then I’ll put the tunnel ram on the engine. I have a 3000 stall converter for it now and just acquired a good 727 B&m shift kit. Have almost all the stuff I need to bolt it into the car.

Things got off track the last 4 months. I won’t get into the details but the last couple weeks I was able to start working on this again.
I now have the engine completely ready to bolt in. I just need to get my trans from the shed and put my shift kit in it.
I have a reasonable solid roller cam in this engine. 253/256 duration @ 0.050
0.622/0.609 lift. It’s a tight lash cam so I cold lashed it 0.010 and 0.012. Once I warm it up I’ll hot lash it.
I purchased a perf world distributor (has the same internals as a msd) and put 8.5mm perf world wires - cut to fit. I have all the nice crimping tools which helps. I have 2 500 cfm eddy avs 2 carbs on top.. I’ll have to do lots of tuning I expect as I want to drive this on the street and have it have reasonable manners. I even have electric choke I put on.
I’ll keep updating as I get it in the car.

It’s all cool - I was going to drop in my x1000 but now won’t bother. I know it’s your car and all - especially coming from Pops. But “if” it were mine - I’d drop the car down some - it sits up too high all the way around and takes away from that Charger bad *** look. Ok … None of business I know. I’ll shut up now…..
