I drove out to Barona Dragstrip yesterday to get some runs in. One thing I tried and found out is that running an air cleaner does not slow the car down at all, so from now on I might as well run it all the time. I tried back to back runs and went 7.939 @ 86.193, then put the air cleaner on and went 7.930 @ 86.168.

One weird thing the car has been doing is popping/backfiring in the muffler. I uncork my cutouts at the track but it seems like some unburned fuel is getting back to the muffler and exploding when the car idles and loads up. Going down the track wide open it's fine. It just did it in the staging lanes and return road a few times. So I connected the vacuum advance, thinking maybe that would help ignite all the fuel at idle and it did seem to help but it still did it but just not as much. So I leaned out the idle mixture screws a half turn and that helped more. Weird, it's never done this before.

Glad you had a good day as to me anytime the car runs fine and you can drive it home or on a trailer its a good day ! 7.90's should be around 12.40's to 12.50's I believe in the 1/4. I remember my sons Dart running 7.86 with the old 383 and it came out to 12.31 in the 1/4. Glad to hear all went well for you. Ron

One of these days, maybe even the end of the month I will take it to Fontana for an actual 1/4 mile time. But that's even more of a trek for me as it's about 90 miles one way, but it's more a a straight shot, less backroads.

Yea that is a bit of a run. The track I race at most of the time is about a 90 mile round trip so its about 45 each way. Takes me close to an hr to drive to the track in my 63 as I drive it nice and easy when cruising to the track. I am guessing it takes you about 2 hrs to go to your 1/4 mile track just one way ? Ron

Google maps says it should take me 90 minutes to get from Oceanside to Fontana but with my 3.91s and 27" tires, I cruise at about 60 mph so maybe a little longer. I worry more about the cost of a tow if something breaks so far away but I do have the AAA RV plan which I think covers that first 100 miles of a tow so maybe I'd be OK. As it is, it takes me about 90 minutes to get to the Barona 1/8 mile track because at least half of the trip is mountain back roads.

Need to get that car out to Fontana.

Tried to send you a PM but your mailbox was full.
