What are the advantages and disadvantages of running with the distributor vacuum hose connected to the carb on a street only car. Very mild build 440 automatic with 3:91's

advantages - you have a smother idle, reduced coolant temperature, improved throttle feel during light acceleration and cruising and little better gas mileage

Using the vacuum advance system will increase engine life by promoting a more complete combustion event thus less fuel to wash the oil off the cylinder walls. This, of course is during cruise operation, which is most of driving from point A to point B anyway.
