Am I behind again? Or does nobody care anymore? Winningest pro coach ever, from NE Ohio and was at the "cradle of coaches", Miami of Ohio! The owner of a 17-0 season in the 70's with the Dolphins. Age 90, RIP for a great real great guy.

Great coach. Best my Vikings in - I think it was the 73 Super Bowl. MAybe the greatest coach ever in pro football. RIP

I was just going to say that! He was a class act. Rest In Peace!

I never saw or heard anything about until now.. thanks!

Handful of coaches that even people that don't follow sports know the names.

He's in there.

Great coach, during his tenure the Dolphins reigned supreme! Rest in peace coach Shula! 440'

We were birthday twins, although he was a little older than me. :D He was one of the guys who wouldn't allow water on the practice field back when they didn't know better. He started his career as an NFL head coach at age 33 in 1963.
R.I.P. to a great coach.

That was sad when I saw it...

RIP Don
the 1 & only perfect season, playoffs & SB ever

As a Packer guy, I remember Shula's rise to great hood around the time the Packers would begin their 20 years of suck-hood after Lombardi was gone. Yes, a class act, reading about his life. The sacrifices coaches make and most don't reach the level of Mr. Shula. Check that, no NFL coach did. Incredible! What magical recipe do those few coaches have to reach and more, sustain success? Reading about coaches like Lombardi and others who were standouts, they usually weren't stellar players; but had the charisma or something to bring out the best in their team that Shula had. They were outstanding people on and off the field. I liken it to bosses I had over my 40 years that I liked and despised. Those I took a liking to, albeit not always, had the ability to bring out the best from mutual respect and didn't want to ever let them down...they were steadfast; but fair. Guess some have that born leadership ability others don't or can't manufacture. I hope that Mr. Shula is now embarking on a new venture somewhere he is looking forward to!

Shula is one of the all time greats. I'm an avid NFL fan and his name was synonymous with winning AND a class act.
