I am looking onto rebuilding my 318 in a my 74 Charger and was looking at the Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and was trying to get input from anyone who has used them. the good the bad and the ugly. Thanks in advance for the input

I have three sets in use now.......two big blocks and one 360 stroker small block.....have had no problems. I threw them on with no modifications...other than some surface milling to get the compression up on them. One set has been on for almost 10 years with no problems at all. If you are looking for all out horsepower there are better heads but for street/mild competition the are great.

I have 2 sets. 1 OOTB with Comp roller rockers on a 360 w/ a 4spd and 4.10's. Runs low 12's with a Purple 292/.509 and zero deck KB flat tops, RPM & 750 carb. Nothing fancy. Good power in a '73 Cuda. I just made a move to a solid cam. No report yet.

My second set is a CNC Hugesengines "Big Mouth" set up. It's on the stand now.

It's a good bit of head for a 318. I assume your building it as a high performance mill.

I agree with rumblefish thats alot of head for a 318 in a heavy car with bigger ports you will lose velocity at low rpms. depending on cam, transmission and rear gear ratio choices you may be dissapointed with low end power

One of the local guys has a demon, I met him because he was going to build his 318 up and the machine shop told him to come talk to me, at the time I had a couple 340's and a 360 sitting in the shed.
He ended up spending just a bit more and built a 360 that made much more power than he could have gotten with a 318 and it ran much better, since with more ci you can use less compression and cam to get more power.

To me a 318 is a great motor for a cruiser, a whiplash cam, clean up the heads, match everything up well, and some pistons that when matched to your heads gets you 10.0-10.5-1. I had one done just that way in a charger, it sounded good and spun the tires like a race car, nothing super fast, but it had to have around 285 hp, I sold that motor, tranny, k frame, and rear end for $3900 which shocked me, but the guy took it for a ride and gave me a deposit to pull it out, wanted it all bad...

ANYWAY, before putting a bunch of money into a 318 I would do some serious thinking and math to see what makes sense, you can score 360's right now...

Thanks for the information it gives me some more to think about

I think you should go 440
