I was just wondering if removing the two torsion bars that run abover the engine in the engine bay will have any negative effect on the car. Thanks

They are there to stiffen things a bit. It's hard to believe that something that thin can do anything. I don't think it would hurt to take them out. Not every car had them. People have been removing them since they did the first tune-up cuz the just get in the way.

Careful with the description, they are in no way a “torsion” bar; the struts are there to control upper fender movement. They are stout enough for their intended purpose. First appearing in 72’ on mostly big block and some 340 cars originally, then pretty much everything else for 73&74’. Yes, likely many of them never got put back on after they “got in the way” of some service work somewhere along the line. Keep in mind however, as with any original part, if there wasn’t a need for it the engineers wouldn’t have designed/specified them for production, the factory wouldn’t have spent a cent on any part that wasn’t deemed absolutely necessary for some purpose.
