So was there such an option for factory leather seats? If so for what models and years? Seems Mopar was too cheap to have this as an option but I thought I had seen some pre 1971’s with leather seats just don’t know if they were aftermarket or factory.

I know that the '70 charger w/se option got partial leather on the seats. The area under your butt and back were leather inserts including the 2 outside seating areas in the back. I have seen that Classic Industries offers this option also, but it is rather expense. I don't know about the other models or Plymouths. You can look at their catalog on line. Hope this helps.

The '70 Challenger SE & Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe had front leather bucket seats. They may have offered these in '71 also ?

Not really caring too much about keeping everything pure stock I redid the GTX in all top grade leather. One of the best things I did. Loved the look and feel and sure got a lot of comments. It must have been fine Corinthian.... but don’t think it was an option on that line.

Here on David Letterman Ricardo is asked about the Corinthian Leather.

69 Charger with the SE package had leather front seats, which I believe was the first year for leather option on the Charger.

As the owner of a 71 Cuda, I think they are the ugliest seat covers of all the mopars. I bought the leather covers to upgrade and make the seats look better.

My suggestion is if you're going to use factory leather seat covers, do them yourself. I did. It's not hard, just hard work. I didn't want to pay someone AND wait. There were no leather backseat covers, they're all vinyl. I tried to upload photos of the seats I did but am told the file is too big.

My 70 Cuda/383/4sp vert had leather go figure. And car had few options, no rally gauges, console, etc.

I'll probably sound like I'm bragging but I took this car, 1969 Dodge Charger R/T SE to the Nats. The only points I lost on the interior was the headliner that I paid someone a lot of money to do. The judges told me I had the highest scoring interior at the show. This was the second set of seats I'd ever done. The point is if I can do it, so can you. People cast dispersions on wether or not I'd be able to do these seats. I believe I achieved my goal of doing a job that is probably better than a professional because odds are the guy in the shop doesn't care as much about your car as you do.

Those are Legendary factory leather seat covers, their replacement foam, burlap, muslin, listing wire, cotton batting (for the back seat) and felt for the frame edge (the grey edging you see in the first photo of the seat bottom.) You can find the hog rings cheap on ebay and the hog ring pliers at Harbor Freight. I have a LOT more photos of the process not just for my own records but for a book of work done on the car that I take to shows. People like seeing that stuff and it proves I did the work. I'll sound like I'm bragging again but a judge was looking at the photos of the seat restoration and was surprised that I cleaned up the frames and painted them. They're apart, why not do it? Other than some light rust, the frames were in really good shape. I cleaned up and painted the tracks and reused them. The car won Best in Show with a unanimous decision of all six judges over nearly 300 cars. They said they have only made a decision like that once before in their 30yrs of doing car shows. It was a good day!
I watched quite a few videos on how to do them. Some people like to cut corners and use things like plastic packing sheets instead of burlap. It will show if you look under the seat and it doesn't breath. I've taken seats apart that someone redid and they didn't use enough hog rings and over time the seat cover will sag. I've seen seats done and they didn't replace the foam. It looks it. It's your car, it's up to you how much you want to do.
