Fair Price on Magnum 500 wheels?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, as I recently picked up a 1971 Charger that is in need of some fixing up.

The car needs wheels and tires, and I am considering either Magnum 500s or some Rallye wheels.

I found these 14x7 Magnum 500s on Craigslist, and I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on these wheels.

Too expensive?
What is a fair price to pay?
Too small?
Would rallyes be better?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize if this post was not very detailed. I am somewhat new to Mopars.

Condition is everything. Your car more than likely came with 14" wheels and probably 6 or 7 inches wide. You need a big tire to look decent in the wheel wells, so make sure a 14" tire is available to make the car's stance to your liking.
Yes, if the wheels are in very good condition they are worth the money.

That is probably a fair price..... but i wouldn't buy fourteen inch wheels for anything.

I would search some of the 15" or 17" wheel threads on this site. Lots of people are moving up from 14". You can get 15" magnums too. Not many 14" tires availabe these days and you have a lot more choices with 15" or 17". If you plan on upgrading to disc brakes i think most of them won't work on a 14" rim. I bet the guy selling them moved up to a larger wheel. If you're dead set on 14" magnums then i'd say it's a pretty good deal.

Price sounds fair. Those are aftermarket version of the Magnum 500's. Original wheels don't have chrome rim, they use a stainless steel trim ring. Just in case your looking for originality.

I sold my 14" mag's for that price some 5 years ago - nice price for those; but I wanted 15" selling the 14's...

I think 14" wheels look fine. I might get 15" wheels eventually but the 14's still look good to me.

It is getting hard to find big 14" tires to fit these rims. This is why I recently went to 15 X 7 rims. Plus fitment with Disc brakes.

I just passed on a set of 15in 500's from a fellow member a week or two ago because shipping was too much for me, he was asking 160 per wheel and they were new in box, Ill get his name and you can contact him and see if they're still available but, I just paid 120 each for some nice used Wheel Vintiques 15in 500's from another member on here. Everything new is back ordered right now. But the 14's are priced decent, offer 300. But I'd go 15's. Tires getting harder to find

Most of my old cars run 14 on the front and 15 on the rear.

No problem at all buying 14 and 15" (even RWL) tires via ebay.

Chrome rim "road wheels" (Magnum 500) were available on pre-1969 Mopars and also offered aftermarket under that "Magnum 500" name brand.

Mopar never offered a 15" in the chrome rim style, but ford did and they work.

The wheels were known as Road Wheels by Chrysler. The wheels with trim rings and were available in 69 and up The full chrome wheels were also known also as Road Wheel sand were offered by the factory up until 68 and were actually Magnum 500’s.

The price he is asking is pretty good considering that the centers and retainers would cost over $400 new.

Thanks guys for all of the information and advice. I am thinking of going with 15s or 17s now because I would like to do a disc brake conversion some time in the future, and I would like wheels that fit with no issues. I also think 15s or 17s are good choices because it will be easier for me to find tires like you all mentioned. Very helpful everyone!

Just to further add my two cents again, referring to the picture of my B5 Superbird, it had NOS 14 x 5.5 Road Wheels. All Superbirds came with front (power) disc brakes. The rears were drums.

I understand your reasoning for larger rims and tires. I just thought I'd toss this in.
