Fan Shroud Installation

Just purchased a new fan shroud for my 68 GTX (car did not have one when I got it). I noticed the round flange on the top and bottom are two different widths/thicknesses (the distance they protrude into the engine compartment). Does the wider flange go on the top or bottom of the shroud when I install it? Thanks much.

You'll notice the engine sits at a slight angle in the car, where the top of the fan is further
away from the radiator than the bottom is. That's your clue.
