getting ready to take out my rear floor pans(69 RR).my question is how do you separate them from the backseat floor hump?Is there spot welds along the seam or take a chisel to separate it.I can get the edge next to rocker panel but need the proper way to remove pans at the seam edge under the seam sealer.thanks to all.

after bracing i would normally cut up close with a plasma cutter, then finish with a air shear or air hammer with a cutting tip.have you gotten rid of the seam sealer?

no i haven't taken off the old seam sealer yet.going to do that tomorrow first thing in the morning..

I would drill them out at the spot welds, you'll need the holes to plug weld the new floors in anyway. If you try seperating them any other way you would distort the heck out of the leading edge of the underseat pan. Should be plenty of reference material in the resto forum.

thanks matt, looked on yours and will's thread and saw the holes for the spot welds and that gave me an idea how many to look for.going to try and get them off today.

Good luck Roger. Besides cleaning out that black goop seam sealer out and drilling out those spot welds, the work itself isn't too bad. I'm sure you'll do a good job. Funny how small the back pan is compared to the front eh? If I remember correctly, I believe there was a couple spots up near the tranny hump where the factory actually put some straight welding on. Easily taken out with a die grinder/wire wheel.

thanks will,i looked on yours and matt's thread yesterday. It wasn't till i got to the half-way mark b4 i got to the spot where you started working on the floors. Thanks for the pm reply. It makes me feel a little better knowing i don't have to wait so long. You get the vinyl on yours yet?

Vinyl is on Roger. They should be wrapping up the headliner today. So, either tonight or tomorrow the roadrunner will be back in the garage...Finally!!!
