OK, I am getting close to my 318 to 440 engine swap. I have a 67 engine lined up and just picked up the 4 speed yesterday. Now then for the questions,....
So far, everything indicates from the aftermarket world, that the flywheel on my 67 318 should be the same replacement part as a 67 440 flywheel. Can anyone confirm this? I think the 67 318 would be internal balanced "steel" crank setup?
Also, the pressure plate and clutch disk should be the same, "according to the aftermarket world". It is a 10.5" disk, and brand new. I thought I would cruise it this summer with the small block and swap everything this winter, but things are going faster than I expected. So it would be nice to use the newly installed clutch assy I just put in the car for the B RB setup as well.
One more thing,,, does anyone know if the trans lengths are the same between 3 speed and four speed manual trannys? I wonder how the drive shaft will workout between the two setups?

Thanks,

The lengths of the trannys are the same...As long as the bolt patterns on the flywheel are the same you should be o.k.I,m not really sure about the 318 being internal balance...If you got the 8 3/4 rear end you should be o.k. too...As far as drivelines go...Check out these guys they are mopar 4 speed specialists...www.brewersperformance.com...I was gonna do the same thing to my 67 GTX..I had all the parts except for pedals and z bar...Changed my mind because i drive trucks for a living...Kind of nice to just stomp on the gas and go!!!

well, i found the same thing your saying about the trans length. I slid under the car and gave a rough measurement and found it to be the same as the four speed. I did however find through mopar action back issues, that you have to change out the slip yoke on the tranny's output shaft. The dia. is different than the 3 speed sticks and the 904 trans. This is a special part that uses the correct output shaft size and fits it to the U-Joint that is found on the current "stock" driveshaft. Now I have to verify all this before I preach it as fact :edgy: !!! Also after some more thought on the flywheel, I believe they are the same as long as the number of bolts are the same. Now as far as internaly or externaly balanced, it realy doesn't matter. I am building a 67 steel crank engine that would have been "internaly" balanced to begin with. If I have weights on the flywheel "externaly balanced" then I will just remove them... As for everything else regarding the swap, it should be a matter of just using all the manual trans stuff that's already in the car "minus the shifter"
Speaking of that,, I will soon have a new Hurst 3 speed shifter for sale if anyones interested.
Here it is now... I still have to cut out the scoop and build an air dam below to match up to the 440 carb. I'll wait till the new engine is in first though...

and again!!!!!!:edgy:
