Hello all, I'm not new to the site, just don't post a lot. I've been soaking up all this great information on 5.7 Hemi swaps.

Just so happens, a friend of mine is the second owner of a 1970 Charger. This is a FM3 (panther pink),original color Dodge Charger. Yep, Pink. The Charger is or was a 318 car, a/c p/s p/b a/t, black vinyl top and black interior. He wanted to make the car more reliable to drive and wanted me to build a 340 for it with some kind of modern fuel system. My suggestion was finding a 5.7 Hemi to swap and be done with it. Well, that's what we did.

We found a Hemi out of a wrecked 2007 Ram 1500. I removed every thing from the salvage and got started on the swap. After reading on this site and many others, I got most of the info and parts list to get started. The idea was to keep the car original as possible but have a reliable modern engine to be a daily cruiser. I have keep the 904 trans, just because we did not want to cut the floor board tunnel and used as much original parts from the car as possible.

I dropped the K member, engine and trans as one assembly, and the fun began. At this point, I have the Hemi, K member and a mock up trans in the Charger now. Not to bore you all the details, I'll post some before and after pictures.

At some point, the trans may need a beefing up. The install looks nice and clean. Whatcha using for engine management? Come on man, don't be shy with the details.

x2 ,very nice job so far:headbang:

Well, I happen to work with a guy who was a Chrysler trainer, so he's helping me with all the wiring. I plan to use my old harness and have a PCM set up for this application. This is strictly a driver. The trans has been beefed. Just talked with another Mopar racer buddy that does trans. he's got it done. Looking at the torque converter now. I need to have it built with some good parts. More to come.

It will have HEMI badges in the 1970 traditional locations.

Matt, I'm the same way.
I've posted some more pics of the build.
As the build goes, I was able to use the truck exhaust manifolds with a slight bit of trimming on some casting webs on the drivers side to clear the steering box. The truck exhaust flanges with the o2 sensors bungs are being used also. I've had to do some cuts and angles on the pipes to get the clearance to the firewall but it's working. I was also able to use the (+) battery cable from the Ram 1500, that worked out sweet as well as the truck fan blade assembly. The engine mounts, block mounts, oil pan and pick up tube along with the flex plate are the norm for a Hemi swap. The plans for the power steering pump are to keep the Ram 1500 unit and reduce the delivery pressure use it on the original gear with some plumbing mods. I'm using the factory wiring harness for the engine and it routes via one of the firewall holes left by the removed original A/C system. Yep, the Charger is getting a new A/C-Heater. I'm use a Classic Air system and retain the 5.7 compressor. Here's my thoughts on the fuel system. Since I am keeping the stock truck intake and throttle by wire I would like to keep the original Charger fuel tank (it has been replaced recently), upgrade the stock tank pick up tube to 3/8, use a p5000 carter fuel pump with a fuel/pressure filter with the return. I'm still doin the pros and cons on this......... Here's some more pics...

Use an intank pump with the 99' vette filter/regulator. This will make your life soon much easier.

What's your suggestion on the in tank pump. I'm all for easier. The vette. reg/filter was a given but I haven't decided on a in the tank pump yet.

Go to tanksinc.com and check out what they have. I used the system with the 255 walbro pump.

Thanks 5.7 hemi. I have checked them out. Looks like the way to go. Seems like I've been working on the 5.7 Hemi swap project but haven't got a lot to show for it. As it stands this weekend I am waiting on the Classic A/C system ordered last week for the Charger. I did order the disc brake conversion and got it installed along with a new M/C this week. Ordering the brake prop. valve along with a 180 thermostat and the torsion bar dust boots next. I need the A/C box installed so I can start routing the wiring for the ECM, relays and fuse holders.

It looks like the factory wheels will have to go on for now. Still waiting on Classic Air to ship the system....In the meantime I've been working out the power steering pump pressure hose adaption and pressure relief valve modification on the 5.7 pump. The plans are adjust the pressure with the use of a pressure and flow rater. I managed to fab the adapter to the top radiator hose and got it secure. Since I had all the parts left over from the 07 Ram I started on some sound deadening for the inner firewall and came up with some ideas. Here's the latest photos I have.

Actually, you can run the stock power steering pump with the factory box and you will be fine. I know alot of people switched to the type2 pump cause the hemi pump was/is too much for the box, myself included, but alas, it's total bull and will be just fine.

5.7 hemi, thanks for the info. I have looked at the operating pressures for each of them. The old style Charger P/S system operates in the 900-1200 psi range, I know this is not exact and varies. The new style pump runs in the 1600 psi range. I'll lower that down and try and be safe with the old box, I don't want to cause myself any premature leaks. I'm working on the pressure hose fittings right now. I am going adapt the high pressure hose from the 5.7 to the fitting on the old steering box. Haven't found all the fittings yet but I am still hunting. 440ronnie67, Thanks for all the comments. The pictures are shot from my old Sony Mavica, 1.2 mega pixels. It's a little hard to get close ups. I'll throw some more pics up on this post. Enjoy

Latest update: The Classic Auto Air is installed, wired and ready for all the under dash hose. As for the Hi and Lo A/C lines. i had to use the 07 truck compressor fittings in order to clear the hood. I got the ECM wiring routed and most of it wired. I still have a bit more to do. The trans and converter are ready to install. This latest under hood shot doesn't look like much different than the previous ones but trust me the little details are time eaters and don't look to obvious.
